LSSL 5385 Chapter 4 Review
In this chapter, entitled Genres and Formats, Dr. Perry discusses what is considered a genre and
why other categories are NOT genres. First off, I had no idea there were so many categories in
nonfiction. Now I knew there were alot in fiction, but I didn’t realize there were so many categories
in nonfiction. Also, I am completely guilty of genre-fying my classroom library into categories, but
calling them genres. OOPS! Looks like I have a project to do in my classroom library. I have
categories for graphic novels, chick lit, historical fiction, etc. Looks like I’ll be staying late after
school to re-organize my library.

My question after viewing this video is, how would you recommend organizing a library if not in
categories? And what do you do with the books that fall into more than one category?
